Where Do I Start?

GSW Welcomes You

Message from the GSW President

The Granite State Wheelers move ahead in 2019
– and a lot more happening soon!

By the time this printed message “hits the street” our summer will be nearly over – and what a hot summer it was! Reportedly July was the hottest month ever recorded for this area. Let’s hope all members stayed well hydrated if cycling otherwise stayed cool in A/C comfort or some refreshing water. Now with fall around the corner we can think of nicer cycling weather – and of course, our Seacoast Century Weekend on September 20-22. If you haven’t registered or volunteered as yet, there is still time – but barely! See articles in this newsletter or just contact me at (603) 898-5479.

You may have seen some GSW ride leaders and Board members sporting the new Granite State Wheelers jerseys. Check out the full page of info in this newsletter to learn how you can purchase the jerseys and a whole lot more Wheelers gear. I will have some samples for sale at the monthly social meeting, all available stock will be at the Seacoast Century Weekend, and the Team Store will be open from September 20 to October 31.

Final call for your review of the updated GSW bylaws! This is a “boring subject” but one needed to document the “Wheelers” trade name, implement better terminology, and streamline seldom-seen overhead tasks – no “earth shattering” changes. Announcement of pending changes to the bylaws must appear in two issues of Pedal Talk – and this is the second. The eleven-page document is available for review on-line at or email me to request a copy. Please review (and comment if desired) by September 9. The Board will take action at our next meeting.

October 14 will be the election of your GSW 2020 Officers and Committee Chairs with known candidates listed in this September-October Pedal Talk. The cut-off date for candidate names to appear on the electronic “Election Runner” slate is October 1, that giving all current members time to vote on-line using the secure and confidential system. If you wish to help move the GSW ahead in 2020, please send your name and desired position to me by October 1 for last-minute entry on the e-ballot. Note that not all incumbents are running in 2020 and a few others have not decided at press time. “New blood” with new ideas and technology combined with time and energy can do a lot to keep this 48-year-old bike club moving ahead in the next decade!

If you have any questions about the GSW or suggestions, please give me a shout! This is your club and there is always room for improvement. All it takes are good ideas, willing volunteers and time to keep the wheels rolling and paperwork flowing.

Enjoy your cycling and stay safe!

Dave Topham
